Violets Art Print

Days 32 & 33 of The 100 Day Project

Share Post:

For days 32 and 33 of the 100 day project I wanted to make certain whether or not I liked the technique I explored yesterday.

I drew a lot of violets using paper and a Blackwing pencil. I scanned the images but did not clean them up in Photoshop since I was only using them as a reference.

I brought it into Illustrator (no Image Trace) and used the Brush Tool and one of Adobe Illustrators artistic brushes to draw over the scanned images. It’s important to not draw with one continuous line but in short “sketchy” strokes using the Brush tool.

In the final art print I converted the brush strokes into shapes by expanding them, then added color and put them together to create the art print.

I like the look of it and if I was going for a more “sketchy” style I’d definitely use this technique over using the Image Trace tool on pencil sketches. But it’s not my style even if it was fun trying to figure out how to make it work.

You can see the final art print above.
